We have been advised by BIFA (British International Freight Ass.)
as follows:
"Please be aware that we understand that the UK Border Agency is planning
to take strike action from 0700 Monday 8th March through to 0700 on
Wednesday 10th March.
Currently, the movement and control of international freight is only
subject to the intervention by UKBA personnel under certain conditions
namely the like of Route 2 examinations, Carnet endorsement and other
regimes where specific border controls are routinely applied.
We have been advised by the National Clearance Hub (NCH) that they have
analysed the situation concerning their staff's intentions (day and
night operations) and they are confident that they will have enough
staff resource to provide an acceptable level of service, although there
may be short periods of time where the service level targets for Route
6's slip a little. They will prioritise according to customer needs as
best they can as they have in the past. However, the NCH inevitably have
to interact on certain clearances with their colleagues at the UKBA. For
this reason Members should understand that should this be the case and
their consignments are delayed, clearance wise, because of the strike,
this is not a situation that the NCH have any control over or
responsibility for."
We shall keep all our customers advised of further developments.
